A roadmap of upcoming updates

Hello. We released version 0.2 a little late, but it's here. It was not a big but very important update of some basic things. To give you an analogy, we strengthened the foundation. We also fixed some data transfer principles for stability and better response. Even if from the user's point of view it's not too noticeable, but it's important to introduce the next features without any problems.

V0.2.1

In this version we are finalizing some of the existing functionality in order not to return to it in the future if possible. We fix some bugs that we caught right after the release (as usually happens).  Also take into account some of the wishes of people who use the tablet. We will show some care for the user with the exit warning.

Separately worth mentioning Mix node, it has undergone significant improvement in terms of blending modes and was added adjustable transparency for the background and foreground. In fact, the usual behavior of layers as in any other well-known to you graphics editor. It is worth noting that part of the functionality decided to move to a separate node. It is needed to clearly separate the operations of cutting, merging, and other similar to the usual color modes of imposition without modification of the form.

We really did not think that at this stage, our program would be noticed and given a chance. We really appreciate all the attention and are working to justify it.

V0.3 Big update

Version 0.3 is very important to us as a second step in shaping the program into a more serious tool. Below are the planned rendering improvements:

  • Update of the material renderer with the addition of Paralax mode
  • Height map implementation
  • Emission map implementation
  • Ability to select (add) environment maps
  • Improvement of lighting in the Material view.

Planned no less important increase in the number of nodes. There will be added a big set for more convenient work with forms, height maps and patterns.

The above is just a short list to give a general idea of the future update. I will only briefly mention that in addition to the above, there will be smaller updates relating to usability and appearance in general.

What's next?

After the second step (v0.3 - v.04) in the formation of the program we plan to move to QT6 if possible. This will further speed up the program, especially in the area of interface and performance in general.  In future versions, we plan to work on the integrity of the workflow and fine-tune the usability.

I hope this description brings clarity and you will know what to expect in the future.
And also please keep in mind that although we are a team of two people and the code is written by only one person, the project will develop consistently and with full attention. You can follow the development process by subscribing to either me or our developer on Twitter.

We also express huge gratitude for your support it gives us motivation and confidence that a simple handy tool for artists (primarily non-technical) need not only us!

Fell in love with your programm))) But I can see several things that can make Symbinode even better at this stage:

1) New project opens automatically when app is launched (it's weird to go to File > New each time I start it)

2) Ctrl+S hotkey to save the project also will be great:)

3) Not sure what exactly Export does now, but I spent some time trying to get my png's. Anyway it's awesome that Node View allows to save image at any step (I personally used it for masks as well as for final Albedo/Normal etc.), but it's not obvious where to click for newbies right now)))

4) I'd like Symbinode to have option for saving global preferences as well as per project (for example I want my default resolution to be 4k for each project I start, without setting it each time manually)

5) And the one that I really miss)))) In blender new nodes can be automatically attached to already existing node-connections or removed from the chain without breaking connection. It would be super awesome to have this feature, since it saves huge amount of time when you don't need to manually connect all the nodes.

Thank you for the feedback. I will try to answer all the questions.

1. When you open a program you don't always want to start from scratch. Maybe you want to open an existing project and opening a project by default is an unnecessary delay in starting. If you are talking about the speed of creating a new project you can use the CTRL+N hotkey which is faster than going through the menu. Also with the advent of settings I think it will be possible to make an option.

2. CTRL + S is already available from the first version. If your hotkeys did not work we would like to know the details.

3. To export you need to have output nodes created. Then you need to select the folder where the program will save the files.

4. Settings are planned after the implementation of patch 0.3 . We apologize for any inconvenience in connection with this.

5. Convenience options which I mentioned in the article just contain these things. We try to make everything as competent as possible and not to run ahead of the locomotive. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you for reply. Ctrl+N was too simple to try, lol))) I've checked Ctrl+s works fine, at least now I know that I should look at the name of the project to see if it's saved))) Anyway I love what you do guys!!
